The wonderful folks of Solo Bar and Eatery have opened their doors for a week to a small group of artist, The Hourglass Ensemble, to workshop an immersive production of Twelfth Night. We invite you to join us in two evenings of public sharing full of music, drinks, dancing, and free flowing Shakespeare.
Our workshop will focus on how a piece of theatre moves through Solo Bar. We will be exploring themes of gender fluidity and identity in Shakespeare's text and how they are reflected in our socio political climate. The music will be live blues and jazz-swing because, like Shakespeare, it is an art steeped in history and practice that is in a constant state of improvisation during the doing.
We will be working on this text with a deep respect and love for the language while asking all the questions we would of a new work. When a company is bold enough to challenge a text; to weigh 400 years of performance and study against who we are in this present moment then a divine conflict ensues out of which the production emerges. Easier said than done...so we're going to go ahead and do it.
We invite you to grab a few drinks and share this experience with us.
